Seabird Monitoring

The Yorkshire coast is an important area for seabirds

Seabirds have fascinated and enthralled people for thousands of years, and it is no different here on the Yorkshire coast.  Our seabirds are important on an international scale but they are also under significant pressure from human activities and climate change.  We need to know as much as we can about their lives – what they eat, where they hunt for food, how many adults nest on the cliffs and how many chicks they raise – to support seabirds in the long term.  The majority of research is focussed around the Flamborough and Filey Coast SPA, which is specifically protected for seabirds.
