Vacancies and Volunteering

Are you looking to build your skills in marine and coastal environmental management? Are you thinking of pursuing an environmental career? Do you want to contribute to innovative research projects?

Explore the information below to find the role that’s right for you.  There are lots of different opportunities for volunteering, work placements and career progression, across the coastline and with a variety of partners.

Coastal Rangers (YWT)

Would you like to spend your days volunteering on a beautiful beach in Yorkshire to help us to identify, record and monitor marine life? We are seeking a team of volunteers from all walks of life, with a keen interest in conservation to help us discover what is living in and amongst the intertidal zones as part of our exciting new River Esk Connect (REConnect) Project.

Living near the coastline, or visiting frequently, you likely know these beaches better than we do! We are keen to hear your stories of how these landscapes are changing, log your observations and use this information to help prioritise the work that is needed to safeguard our coastal species and habitats.

An essential training session and full induction will be provided for this volunteer role.

If you are interested in applying please read the full role description here and send in a completed volunteer application to volunteering@ywt.org.uk

Recreational Activity Surveyor (YMNP)

We’re looking for active and independent volunteers who can spend one day per week recording recreational activities amongst the UK’s largest mainland breeding seabird colony, throughout the summer months.

You will visit various locations across Flamborough and Filey cliffs, recording recreational activities and observing the response of seabirds.  The data you collect will help us to understand more about our unique seabird colony and how we can better protect it.

Full training will be given, however access to your own vehicle is required due to the rural nature of the monitoring locations.

Please email ymnp@eastriding.gov.uk for more information.

Volunteering is a great way to build experience, meet new people, improve your wellbeing and develop skills.  Opportunities are available throughout the year with our partners – check out the links below for more information:
