The YMNP works with an ever-growing network of partners to identify key knowledge gaps, develop new projects, support existing activities, and enable innovative progress.

We aim to meet the site-specific needs of our Marine Protected Areas, whilst also advocating for the coastline to be viewed as a single inter-connected ecosystem. In this way, we support our partners to prioritise collaboration and knowledge-exchange, so that we can make better use of our resources and work towards a more sustainable future for the region.

Recovering our Seascape Ecosystem (RoSE)

We’ve been working closely with partners across Yorkshire to ensure the coastal and marine environments are appropriately considered in the new Local Nature Recovery Strategies.

Concrete Coast Project

By making small changes to our hard coastal infrastructure, we can make big improvements for our intertidal species. The Concrete Coast project is assessing where these improvements could be made to help ‘green the grey’.

Great Yorkshire Kelp Forest

Kelp is an ‘ecosystem builder’ because it provides shelter and food for so many other species. We’re working with multiple partners to map and monitor Yorkshire’s vitally important kelp forest, for the very first time.

Monitoring Recreational Pressures

Coastal wildlife can be very sensitive to human activities. We record, monitor and work with others to manage recreational activities which may unintentionally disturb wildlife.

Connecting the Dots Project

We receive so much from our coastal and marine ecosystems – food, fuel, even the air we breath. Watch the short films created by this project to find out more.
